Sweaty and stinky gym clothes and how to deal with them...
How do we deal with sweaty gym clothes that never seem to smell clean even after multiple washes?
Here are some scenarios some of you regular fitness junkies, personal trainers and regular gym goers may relate to:
1. Tops and shorts smell musty and even washing multiple times does not get rid of the smell.
2. Your favourite gym outfit is getting slightly old and does not smell fresh anymore.
3. Worst case scenario, you pack your gear to go to the gym after work and when you get there, the top or bottom smell musty.
Most of us has been there at one time or another. It is less than pleasant, may end up ruining or cancelling a workout, and or even worse may get you some weird looks from fellow gym members because you do not smell clean!
What can or should we do to avoid this? Buying new clothes might not be the answer, not the economical or environmental choice at least.
Tips that may work for you are:
1. Wash clothes as soon as possible after the gym preferably before they dry.
2. Pour some white vinegar in the softener section of the washing machine or just add it in before the last rinse cycle (see accompanying photo).
3. Segregate your most sweaty clothes from your shoes, dry gear and other items in your gym bag to avoid cross contaminating them.
4. Keep your gym bag clean and once a week, clean it out, wash it and set it in the sun, but please follow your bag's cleaning instructions as some bags may not be washable.
5. Soak stubborn gear in water and vinegar for a few hours before washing them again.
